Workflow

As described in the introduction, creating an article consists of four phases. How these phases are connected is explained below in some more detail. Looking at an example could also help.

• Phase 1: Write the original text: In the simplest case, an article has only one journalist, who writes its text in a single language. In such a case, phase 1 contains only a single task: Writing this text. A more complex example is an article which is written by two journalists who write in two different languages. This case would be modeled by having two tasks in phase 1.
• Phase 2: Revise and discuss: In this phase the initial text will be read to find out, whether its content is fine: Is the text well structured, can it be understood, does its meet the expectations. From this phase, the text can be given back to the original author so that he can work on it a little bit more. It is during this phase, where the article is really discussed.
• Phase 3: Versions: Phase 3 exists to produce different versions of the text. An example of a version is the translation into another language. A summary of a text is also a version. In general, every new text that is produced from the given input texts is a version.
• Phase 4: Correct: This phase has tasks to correct all versions of a text. As an example: A text which initially written in english and during phase 3 translated into german will have two tasks in this phase.

Languages and Character Set

• The user interface is currently available in english, german, french and italian. Adding more languages is simply a matter of translating an existing user interface into another language.
• The selectable article languages are at the moment english, german, french and italian. Again, adding support for more or different languages is possible with little effort.
• Articlefox uses UTF-8 as its character set. It therefore can store and display a wide range of glyphs.

Technical Details

• Articlefox is implemented as a Java Servlet.
• Jetty is used to run Articlefox as a standalone application. As a web application, Articlefox can be run inside any Java application server, e.g. Tomcat.
• The textual data is stored in a MySQL database, the uploaded pictures and the attached documents are kept as files.
• Articlefox is licensed under the Apache2 license.
• Sourceforge is used to make it open source.
